Launched in 2019, BDEO has rapidly become a crucible for the nation's sharpest minds, consistently selecting elite national teams to showcase their prowess on the global stage. 

Our participants represent Bangladesh at prestigious international arenas like the International Economics Olympiad (IEO) and the World Economics Cup (WEC), setting benchmarks and earning accolades. Chairman: Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad

Dr. Ahmad has a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK. He is the recipient of the highest national civilian Award Swadhinata Padak and Ekushe Padak. He is a member of the 2007 Noble Peace Prize winning UN IPCC team, and the chairman of Dhaka School of Economics, University of Dhaka. 

Member: MD. Khurshid Alam

Deputy Governor, Bangladesh Bank--the central bank of Bangladesh. Mr. Alam joined the Bangladesh Bank in 1988 as an Assistant Director, appointed based on merit, and has served the Central Bank for nearly 35 years. Throughout his career, he has worked across various departments including Banking Regulation and Policy, Currency Management, Banking Inspection, and others. Notably, he served as the Project Director for the Supporting Post Covid Small Scale Employment Creation Project. Mr. Alam's educational background includes an HSC from Notre Dame College, Dhaka, a Master's Degree from the University of Dhaka, an MBA, and the first part of the Banking Diploma from the Institute of Bankers Bangladesh. 


Member: Dr. Mustafa K Mujeri

Dr. Mujeri has a PhD in Economics from McMaster University in Canada. He is the executive director of the Institute for Inclusive Finance and Development (InM).

Member: Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman 

Dr. Akhtaruzzaman has a PhD in Economics from CERDI, France. He is the Director General of the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management. Previously, he served as the Economic Adviser of Bangladesh Bank. In his role, he contributes to the formulation and management of monetary policy, provides guidance for policy research and analysis, and participates in high-powered policy-making committees. 

Member: Professor Muhammad Shahadat Hossain Siddiquee

Dr. Siddiquee is an Economics Professor at the University of Dhaka. He obtained his PhD in Development Policy and Management from the University of Manchester, UK. His research interest includes impact evaluation using RCT, focusing on poverty, well-being, and inequality at the micro, meso, national, and global levels. 

President, EC: Md. Al-Amin Parvez

Mr. Parvez steers the course as President of the Executive Committee of the BDEO. Currently an Assistant Director at Bangladesh Bank in the Chief Economist's Unit, he brings a rich background in academia as a former faculty member at the Dhaka School of Economics. There, he imparted knowledge in development, environmental, and entrepreneurial economics at the graduate level. Holding a Master's in Economics from the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, he is further enhancing his expertise with another Master's at the University of Edinburgh, UK.

 

Mission of BDEO: To further economics and finance literacy educaion among youths throughout Bangladesh.

Vision of BDEO: To become a part of the national development strategy of the Government of Bangladesh
